The Blue Bear Pre School (formerly Methodist Hall Playgroup) was founded twelve years ago and is both a playgroup and a Pre-School, catering for children from 2 to 5 years of age with full day care provision for children from 3 years onwards. The children learn through play in a fun and friendly environment with qualified and caring staff, all first aid trained. The Foundation stage curriculum is followed at the playgroup with children aged 3 to 5 years. For children aged 2 - 3 years the Birth to 3 matters framework is used.

There is now a selection of sessions available for parents to choose from depending upon the age of the child. Free places are available for 3 year olds from the term after they turn 3. In the report from Ofsted September 2003, the following was stated about the playgroup, "Warm and welcoming environment with caring staff. Well planned and stimulating activities." To see a session in progress you can either call in to the Playgroup or contact Emma Smith or Anne Chauhan on the above number to arrange a visit.

In early November 2006 Blue Bear moved from the Methodist Hall to its current location in Strike Lane Primary School.

Brownies

Brownies badge

Girls from the age of 7 can join the Brownies and stay up until their 11th birthday but can if they wish join the Guides once they are 10 years old. The Brownies are the next stage following on from Rainbows although it is not necessary to have been in the Rainbows before becoming a Brownie.

The meetings are fun with games, crafts, learning different skills, meeting new people and making new friends all part of being a Brownie.

There are organised trips throughout the year with one of the most popular being the Pantomime and the other is the Brownie Splash, a trip to The Sandcastle at Blackpool involving lots of waves and water!

The Brownies are linked with the Church of England and attend special services throughout the year at the Holy Trinity Church in Freckleton. This does not affect in any way the membership of Brownies from other religious denominations.

The girls can also work towards gaining a wide range of badges which gives them a great sense of achievement and purpose. The Brownie Motto is "Lend a hand" and this is remembered in all aspects of the girls work.

The Sunday School, which is attached to the Church of England, is held at Freckleton C of E school every Sunday during school term time. When the school is closed it is held in the Holy Trinity Church on Lytham Road, Freckleton as part of the normal church service. Children of three years of age and over are welcome to attend.

The service usually consists of singing, interactive worship, prayer, story telling, drawing, colouring and craft work which includes items for specific events such as Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas etc.

One of the important events of the Sunday School year is the annual Freckleton Club Day Parade held every June. All children, young and old can participate in this enjoyable tradition. The older children, known as the Youth of Sunday School, have a special part in this event. The Rose Queen, who represents our parish church, is chosen from the group.

Each year we have a Christmas presentation and all the children are invited to be involved.

We are one of the largest Sunday Schools on the Fylde, if not the largest.

School Time:

Sunday 10.30am - 11.30am

The Sunday School welcomes all children. The Sunday school mission statement is as follows:

1. We nurture the growth of the Christian faith, in the children through teaching from the scripture.
2. We introduce the children into the traditions of the church.
3. We look after the well being of all those entrusted into our care.

Girls from the age of 10 are eligible to join the Guides. This is the next stage following on from the Brownies although it is not necessary to have been in the Brownies to become a Guide. The meetings are fun, they learn new skills, make new friends and help each other. They work in groups known as Patrols and are actively encouraged to plan their own activities to give them more independence and to share in decisions that affect themselves and others in their group. The Guide leader does offer support and guidance concerning this but the onus is on the girls making the decision themselves. There are a wide variety of badges to work towards which they can do so at their own pace, giving them a great sense of achievement and purpose. Trips and events are planned through out the year, some even as far afield as London! Occassionally the Guides attend special Church services at the Holy Trinity Church in Freckleton but this in no way affects the membership of Guides from other religious denominations. The Guide Motto is "Be Prepared" and this is most useful in all aspects of a guides life.

Pre-school Music

Contact: Pippa Barratt
077025 42620

After studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Andrew and Pippa Barratt moved to Freckleton in 1978. Pippa taught at Queen Mary School, Lytham, for six years alongside Andrew, who was Head of Music at the school from 1977 until its merger with King Edward School.

Once their two daughters had gone to school Pippa pioneered Pre-School Music Groups in the Fylde. These have run successfully for the last nineteen years and have developed from independent groups attended by parents and children to taking the classes into nurseries ranging from as far afield as Wheelton, near Chorley, to Blackpool.

Children, from eighteen months up to school age, are welcome in the half hour classes and have great fun using rhythm sticks, percussion instruments, learning rhymes and songs, and basic music theory such as pitch and rhythm.

This work is based upon the Key Stage 1 Music requirements. At the same time helping to develop speech, concentration and memory retention.

Each class costs £3 and for further information Pippa can be contacted on 077025 42620.

Pippa is also a fully qualified piano teacher, having obtained the GRSM degree and ARCM diploma. She has taught the piano for over twenty years, to all levels of ability and can be contacted on the above number.
