Tom Crofts Car Park -
18.11.05
The gate from the car park into the school is now open, although I'm not sure
how many people have noticed! The school have issued a questionnaire to parents
to obtain feedback on how it is going. Don't forget to let them know. My mini
survey suggests the new car park layout is universally disliked.
Remembrance Sunday
A lovely morning, if a little cold. Attendance was high this year. The Freckleton
Band were there as were representatives of most of the village organisation's.
Lancashire Best Kept Village
Competition
Freckleton has been awarded three winners prizes in this year’s competition:-
1. Most improved large Village.
2. Public Playing Fields – for the Memorial park
3. Special features – for the Roundabout on Preston New road.
In addition, highly commended certificates were awarded
to:-
1. Threlfall Transports – Commercial & Industrial section
2. At Balderstone – Notice board section
3. Cenotaph – War memorial section
4. Large Village Class
Congratulations to all concerned in making the village
look so nice this year. More information can be found on the Parish
Council website.
Halloween Party -
Update
Reports are mixed. The event was obviously targeted at the older age group.
The younger children arrived and left quickly. There was no gazebo, only a
groundsheet. Face painting was on offer later in the evening, even if it was
done by torch light. Some of the older children report having a great time,
despite the lack of facilities. Perhaps better planning and notification in
the future might be a good idea?
Halloween Party - 01.11.05
All in all not a good showing for anyone. There was no gazebo, only a 12x12
groundsheet. Its also hard to paint faces by torch light. Surrounded by older
youths talking foul language most of the youngsters who turned up left after
a very short time. From what I saw a lot of the kids had gone to a great
deal of effort and some of the costumes were really good. I don't know what
went wrong, but 'questions will be asked'.
Heart of the Community Competition
The Younger years Committee would like to express their most grateful thanks
to everyone who voted for them in the recent Heart of the Community Competition
run by the Lytham St.Annes Express. They are extremely pleased to announce
they were joint 3rd place winners and received £125.00 in prize money.
Yet another step closer to their goal of a Youth Club in Freckleton has been
achieved.
Update on Tom Crofts Car Park
Fencing and barriers have been added to the new path. The health and safety
check has been done. The gate into the school remains locked until the re-cycle
bins have been relocated.
Freckleton Brass Band
Our congratulations go to the band for winning the North West Counties Brass
Band Association competition in Fleetwood on Sunday the 2nd October 2005.
The band is ranked amongst the top 50 in the WORLD and will be representing
England at the Scottish Open competition in November. They will also be releasing
their 3rd CD recording in mid November, entitled "Faith, Folk and all
that Jazz". It will feature several soloists and pieces requested from
their popular and entertaining concerts. More details can be found on their web
site
Public Toilets Re-opened
The public toilets near the Memorial Gardens are now open again during the
day. Still disgusting, but when 'needs must'.
Heart of the Community
A competition is being run in the Lytham St Annes Express to give cash grants
to local groups and charities. The Freckleton Younger Years Committee, who
are raising money for youth facilities in the village, are in the final of
this competition. Please buy a copy of the paper and vote for them. Closing
date is Friday October 7th.
Neighbourhood Watch
A number of residents have expressed interest in establishing a Neighbourhood
Watch. More information how to set up a scheme can be found on the government
crime reduction site. Freckleton.org will be happy to support any such
initiatives.
Police Report
The police report at the last Parish Council Meeting concluded that it has
been a quite summer break with very few problems reported. Dog fouling remains
a problem. People have been playing golf on the
playing field, which is against the law. There
are problems with parking on pavements but as long as sufficient room is
left for the passage of a pram/wheelchair then it is a problem for Parkwise
not the police. Complaints have been made about drinking and motor offences
on Lower Lane Estate.
Public Toilets Closed
It appears that the pubilc toilets near the Memorial Gardens have been closed.
Whilst all will agree that they are pretty disgusting, closing them down
does not seem to be a good solution. Express your opinion to both the Freckleton
Parish Council and Fylde Borough Council (Fylde Borough being the responsible
party).
Changes to Tom Crofts Car Park
The car park on School Lane (behind the library) has beem rearranged and a
new gate to the school has been added. There are obviously problems with
the new layout as the gate into the school has remained locked..

to Friday 8th July inclusive for road repairs.
No more Fuel
The Lower Lane Texaco garage is no longer selling fuel (June 2005). The service
garage and car sales will remain open. The rumour is that the distance from
the shop to the pumps did not comply with EC regulations. Despite the garage
being profitable, the cost of complying with the regulations is too high!!!!
Changes on the A584
There are now big red 50mph road markings on the dual carriage way (June 2005).
The police will also be using the mobile speed camera to monitor traffic
